Beauty On The Road | Fitness & Food

When you're travelling it can be near impossible to maintain your beauty regime. Travelling is extremely stressful, there's the packing, making sure you have everything, then there's the car journey, areoplane, airport, security, landing.. there's a lot going on. The whole situation can provoke anxiety. You're missing your loved ones, your bed, your things, even sometimes your favourite foods. Although, flying off to some tropical paradise doesn't stress me at all..

As for your skin, areoplane air can be very dehydrating. The change in products can also irritate your skin, for example, if you plan on using your hotels shampoo, that getting onto your skin could irritate it as it is not used to this product. Some people try and pack light and don't bring their cleanser, for example, and use soap instead. Big no no. Try buying travel sized products of all your everyday items, such as shampoo and shower gel. If your product doesn't come in a travel size, you can easy pick up the mini clear bottles from almost every super market and fill them yourself. Easy peasy. Another cheat is, if you buy your make up products from a counter (Mac, Clinque etc.) ask for samples.. easy mini make up for light travelling.

Diet and fitness can go to pot when you're away. A few days off your routine won't make you jump up a dress size but if you're away for longer, there are ways to maintain your routine. Try a simple exercise routine such as the one below that you can do in your hotel room:

  • 50 Jumping Jacks
  • 20 Squat Jumps
  • 20 Push Ups
  • 30 Lunges (alternative legs)
  • 25 Curls Using Weights (water bottles work well)
  • 25 Squats (hold a water bottle in each hand)
  • 25 Dips (using a chair to support yourself)
If the weather is ok, try a 30 minute walk, there's an easy way to exercise. Try and seek a healthy option in the restaurants and cafes. I know this is hard to do in airports so it's ok to have that cream cake that one time! If not, pop a couple snack bars (Alpen, Organic Snack Bars, Nature Valley) in your handbag. If worst comes to worst, coffee shops normally sell apples and bananas!
